I loved that I got so many people to participate in the studio promo I ran in January to the end of February. I thought I might not get many takers. Maybe a few family members would humor me. But I had other people that found me on facebook that came up, and I still have a few more to go! It has still been tough though.
I came across a good share of problems that were very frustrating. I was at the point were I asked myself if it was even worth it. I had issues with lighting being to dark, my backdrops looking wrinkly, my camera settings being off, and trying to figure out post-processing on the computer. Learning professional photography is no easy task. But with encouragement from my husband, and the the facebook group I belong to, I will push on! Even if I never really get this to be a career. I still love the art of photography.
Now, having done some studio sessions, I have learned a lot, and know I still have more to learn. As with any professional career, there is always more. So, I have my goals for what I want to do this year.
My first goal is to continue having people in studio. I want to really learn my Studio inside and out. I also want to upgrade my continual lighting to slave strobe flashes. I would love to get a different type of backdrop as well. Right now I have two muslin (cotton) backdrops that tend to wrinkle easily. I am looking to try vinyl.
My second goal is to keep trying new things with my camera. I know that I can get better at learning manual settings. I don't want to depend on the automatic settings. I just have to remember that while doing a session, it is OK to stop and adjust settings. Which I have a tendency to just keep shooting a ton of things without any adjustments. That leaves me with a ton of post-processing to figure out!
A final goal I have for myself is to scrape up the extra money to start taking the photography classes at University of New Hampshire. They have online "Professional Development" classes for a reasonable price. I have taking a class before while in collage, but that was long ago, and it was a basic introductory class with a film camera.
My ultimate goal is to get a perfect image in camera, with no of very minimal post processing needed. I know that if I stick with this and work hard, I can get there.
