Week 30: Something Funny

This photograph was taken this morning. I thought it was funny, perfect for this weeks challenge! All I have to say is that one can never be too careful while mowing the lawn!

Next week is books.

Week 29 - The Color Green

The color green is everywhere, so this should have been an easy challenge. I really could have done a ton of things for this week. But, due to limited free time for photography,  I kept to the minimal side. I have a few shots of everyday nature here. Believe me, I had many more ideas, that time did not allow for. I really need to bring my camera everywhere, to open my options more! Anyway, here are a few things green!

OK, so I know the dragonfly is orange, but the leaf is green!!!

Week 28 - Pattern

Well, I am late for week 28. I had Photoshop up and die on me! For some weird reason, it just would freeze when I tried to open a file. No matter what my husband (computer smart one!)  or I did, it just wouldn't work. So, My husband found my a new program for photo editing. So, I am having to learn this new program now. Not too thrilled, since I just got used to Adobe Photoshop.... Anyway, I did manage to get my images from last week done. Not as happy with these, because things I wanted to do, I couldn't get to be the same as I would have if Photoshop was working. Well, I know I will adapt as I have been all along!

So here are my takes on pattern for Week 28! I will mention what they are underneath each image.

Week 27: Black and White

Here I am, officially half way through the "2012 Photographer's 52-capture challenge"! I cannot believe it is July already!!! I have been having a blast with my photography this year. I have taken two classes, spent hours watching and trying online tutorials, getting families to volunteer in studio so that I could learn more about lighting, and just shooting! I feel like a happier person, now that I have fallen back into the world of photography. It feels great to do something I am passionate about, and love so much. I also feel blessed to have my blog and my Facebook page to share my adventures with you!!!

So, a big thank you to all that have helped me, and supported me as a developing photographer. My hope is to continue learning and growing. May the second half of 2012 be even better then the first half!!!

So, to keep on track, this week was black and white. I have my pick for this week first. Let me explain a bit about it and why i picked it. See, I have always loved things of the past. This is especially true of the history of things were I live. I love to learn about historical events, and I love historical things. This week, I happened to be on what used to be an U.S. Air Force base. It was open in the early 1950's, and it officially closed in 1992.

Most of the base has now been developed to current businesses. and is open to the general public. There are, however, still parts of the base that are original, and untouched. This photo is of the original weapon storage facility. It is completely run down and overgrown now. But it still fascinates me. I look at it, and think of what it was like to work there? What was stored there? What was it like here as a functioning base? So many things run through my mind. This particular photo doesn't give the full picture. Of the eeriness and wonder of the compound. But I still thing it tells a bit about it. I thought as a whole, this was a cool experience.

For the rest of my black and whites, I had each of my boys give me their best sad face. I wanted something dramatic for these black and whites! I think they all did great, even though they do look so sad!

Next week is Pattern!

Birds

So I have been on this mission since Spring. I just randomly decided to capture as many birds as I could around where I live (New England). So Far I have 16 different birds. This had been a great learning experience. I have become more aware of my surroundings in nature. Nature is an amazing thing, and have been awesome to explore. I thing each spring/summer, I will try to pick one natural thing to find, learn about, and photograph. This years I will continue to search for birds. Next year, maybe flowers or trees.

I may also try to find a different non-natural subject. Something that is there, but we as people don't usually take notice of. One great idea my sister (and fellow photographer - http://www.brendasdreamboutique.com/) had was lamp-posts.

Anyway, back to birds for now! One thing at a time! Here are all the birds I have found thus far (Started in mid May). I will show the photograph, and tell the name of each bird. I will post more at the end of each month, until it gets to cold to continue. Enjoy!

American Gold Finch

Black-throated Blue Warbler

 Great Blue Heron

 Northen Cardinal

 Great Egret

 Great Comorant

 American Robin

 Mute Swan

 Wild Turkey

 Grey Catbird

Nuttalls Woodpecker

Male Mallard Duck

Canada Goose

Red-Winged Black Bird

Rock Wren

Female Herring Gull

So, I will continue searching for new birds to photograph, and I will update at the end of Junly. I hope to get at least 30 by the time I am done! We shall see.....
